Alpha Fertility offers a unique approach to patient care, and provides an array of services to provide the best patient care. Our philosophy is:
Dr. Rizk specializes in Reproductive Endocrinology, and has over 20 years’ experience treating women for infertility and reproductive health. Dr. Rizk has studied functional medicine, the biochemistry of health, and uses an integrated approach in his treatment of patients. There are many lifestyle and environmental issues which are insidious in undermining health and a couple’s ability to conceive. Preconception counseling is an important component of treating individuals experiencing a delay in conception and/or repetitive pregnancy loss.
Alpha Fertility provides all diagnostic and treatment modalities for the treatment of infertility for men and women. Treatments available include intrauterine inseminations, ovulation induction, and the assisted reproductive technologies (ART), i.e. In Vitro Fertilization IVF. The later include IVF with ICSI (intra cytoplasmic sperm injection), assisted hatching, donor sperm, donor egg, TESE (testicular sperm extraction), PGD (pre-implantation genetic diagnoses), embryo cryopreservation (embryo freezing), sperm banking, surrogacy, and extensive reproductive immunology testing and treatment.
Dr. Rizk has a special interest and expertise in Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS), also known as Insulin Resistance (IR), which is the precursor of the metabolic syndrome. This condition is not an ‘ovarian problem’ and affects women as well as men.
PCOS, aka Insulin Resistance, is a complex metabolic disorder, which has many symptoms and presentations. It affects both men and women, and is associated with reproductive, cosmetic, emotional and medical co-morbidities. Women may experience problems with their menstrual cycles, weight gain, difficulty achieving and/or maintaining pregnancy, unwanted hair growth, acne or balding. Other symptoms can include headaches, fatigue and emotional dysphoria, i.e. issues with anxiety and/or depression. The incidence of this condition is rapidly increasing, and is becoming epidemic in nature. There are significant co-morbidities which can develop with time, if left untreated, including high blood pressure, elevated cholesterol, and central obesity. The triad of hypertension, dyslipidemia and central obesity has the potential to lead to cardiovascular conditions (heart attacks or strokes) and/or diabetes.
Dr. Rizk employs a multidisciplinary approach, utilizing functional nutrition, exercise, anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidative nature supplements, as well as medication in the care of his patients. There are many women with this condition that experience difficulty achieving an ongoing pregnancy. Through this integrated approach to care, women can achieve health, as well as having a healthy pregnancy.
Emotions are powerful, and most, if not all individuals have considerable stress which they are trying to cope with. Stress has been traditionally viewed as an emotional issue, but it is now known that there are serious medical consequences which can develop due to stress alone. To help individuals with these concerns, mental health professionals are available to provide services for couples and/or individuals. These services include learning stress reduction techniques. These techniques can be taught in an individual or group setting, and are very successful in improving one’s quality of life, as well as enhancing the likelihood of conception.
Trauma, physical and/or emotional, can cause neuro/cognitive/emotional disorders. Services are available by our mental health professionals to help individuals identify the trauma that triggers these responses, which can undermine a person’s wellbeing.
Dr. Rizk also addresses the hormonal changes which occur throughout life. These changes can have profound effects on physical, cognitive and emotional wellbeing. Bio-identical hormone replacement therapy is critical for maintaining health, and is recommended and available for many men and women.
